In true Madiba spirit, the Johannesburg Giants took up that call this Mandela Day, using the power of basketball not just to entertain- but to educate, uplift, and empower.
Partnering with the Johannesburg Basketball Academy, the Giants hosted a dynamic basketball clinic coupled with an impactful life skills session, designed to equip young players with more than just techniques on the court. It was about instilling discipline, nurturing leadership, and fostering a sense of purpose; tools that extend far beyond basketball.
As Nelson Mandela once said, “Education is the most powerful weapon to change the world.” The Johannesburg Giants embraced this belief wholeheartedly by creating a space where learning happened through experience, mentorship, and heartfelt connection.
A highlight of the day was when Giants players Josh Ozabor and Liam Mali stepped up to share their personal stories from their time playing in the United States. Their journeys became living proof that with vision and resilience, the world is within reach.
It was a moment filled with energy, hope, and possibility, everything Mandela stood for.
